TRUCK DRIVER

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Operate and drive trucks over long distances or locally, depending on the nature of the job.

  • Adhere to traffic laws and regulations, and maintain a safe driving record.

  • Navigate routes efficiently and plan for fuel stops, breaks, and rest periods.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the mechanical soundness of the truck.

  • Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as checking oil levels, tire pressure, and brake systems.

  • Safely load and unload cargo, ensuring that it is properly secured and distributed.

  • Verify the accuracy of shipping documents and ensure that the correct items are being transported.

  • Maintain communication with dispatchers, shippers, and receivers to provide updates on delivery progress.

  • Use communication devices, such as radios or GPS systems, to navigate and stay in contact with the transportation team.

  • Complete and submit logs, trip reports, and other required paperwork accurately and on time.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, such as hours of service (HOS) rules.

  • Interact with customers and clients professionally during loading, unloading, and delivery processes.

  • Handle any issues or inquiries from customers in a courteous and efficient manner.

  • Adhere to safety regulations and follow established procedures for transporting hazardous materials, if applicable.

  • Comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations.

  • Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as accidents or breakdowns, by following established protocols.

  • Ensure the safety of oneself and others on the road.

  • Manage time effectively to meet delivery deadlines and schedules.

  • Plan routes to optimize efficiency and minimize delays.

  • Maintain the physical stamina required for long hours of driving and potential manual labor involved in loading and unloading.

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual requires at least a high school diploma or its equivalent,

  • With a professional Driver's License for heavy equipment vehicle

  • Traffic Laws and Regulations: Understanding and adhering to local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations is crucial.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of efficient and safe routes, including the use of navigation systems, is essential for timely and safe deliveries.

  • Basic knowledge of truck maintenance, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, helps ensure the vehicle's proper functioning.

  • Familiarity with logbooks and other required documentation, such as recording of odoo meter, is necessary to comply with regulations.

Skills:

  • Proficient driving skills, including the ability to handle large commercial vehicles in various traffic and weather conditions.

  • Effective communication with dispatchers, customers, and other team members is important.

  • The ability to manage time effectively to meet delivery deadlines and schedules.

  • Quick problem-solving skills for addressing issues such as mechanical breakdowns, route changes, or unexpected delays.

Experience:

  • While some entry-level positions may be available for new CDL holders, many employers prefer candidates with a certain amount of driving experience.

  • Experience in loading, unloading, and securing cargo is valuable, especially for specialized hauling.

  • Long-distance or cross-country driving experience may be preferred for certain positions.

  • A clean driving record with minimal traffic violations and accidents is often sought by employers.
