Formerly the poorest province in the country, it is now recognized as an important site for investments, with several businesses from all over the world making their mark in the province, particularly in Dipolog and Dapitan. These are also the two most densely populated areas in the province and are centers for processing the areas bountiful agricultural produce. These cities are also hubs for the province’s important services. Given the expanding economy, there has been growth in many different job sectors in these areas, particularly in services and retail. A number of malls and shopping centers are also present in these cities, attracting shoppers from all over the province. Outside of the larger urban centers, the other municipalities of Zamboanga del Norte are also host to important mining sites, including a number operated by foreign companies. New mining sites continue to be developed to this day. Zamboanga del Norte’s agriculture is heavily based on corn and coconut production, with rice being produced for domestic consumption as well.
